During my re-branding I tried quite a few different on-line platforms built for trainers to mange businesses. There are many options out there, some are intended for large scale businesses, others are better for smaller businesses. I am a single trainer. I chose Total Coaching because of the interface it provides for me to interact with various types of clients and gives me more potential to grow.
One thing I absolutely hate about modern technology is that it can become a distraction more than an assistant in a few key areas of life, exercise is no exception. The Total Coaching App (Apple/Android) is awesome. It does not become a distraction, it is an assistant in the gym to provide reminders of what exercises to do and how to do them.
To avoid the distractions of electronics, Total Coaching also has print options for workouts that are easy to follow. The Total Coaching print options provide 9 exercises per page with instructions, room to record results, and my company header to add a more professional appearance. From cardio to circuits to flexibility training, I have not been limited in my ability to create workouts for any of my diverse clients.
The exercises in the Total Coaching library range from therapeutic stretches and isometrics to complex Olympic lifts, complete with animated graphics, verbal instruction, and space to add additional instruction. If they are missing an exercise, custom exercises are easy to create. Every exercise can be tracked with multiple variations of sets, reps, load, time, intensity (infinite interval options), and can be linked for circuit training or super sets. Creating a complete exercise program is straightforward. Saving templates, favorite exercises, and favorite routines makes replication simple.
Other than an initial log-in, or app download, my clients only see my company as their interface. Total Coaching takes care of the background work so that I can focus on interaction with clients. The platform provides communication features through a messaging feature (also in the app), questionnaires, or a forum open to anyone on my list (this option is not mandatory, for those who do not care to moderate social media).
Trainers or clients can track any information (biometrics, strength increases, speed improvements, nutrition information) in a reports feature for easy tracking. If something is not built-in to the platform, there is a custom data creation option.
There is no financial, accounting or payment component to Total Coaching and the platform does not link to calendars. These are two features that other platforms have, or try to have. The custom data option is one way to keep a log of in-person and virtual client interactions. I manage the financial aspects of my business in other ways and this did not influence my decision-making. However, I felt platforms that included financial services sacrificed some quality from the training portion of their product.
I set out to find an application with on-line and app access that would be easy to use for me and for my clients and Total Coaching was the best choice. The elegant interface and multiple delivery options make this diverse application an awesome investment for any training looking to reduce admin time.
